i need to hear more about how you approached him? did you just waltz straight up and shake his hand? or did you start singing one of his tunes and wait for him to notice? or perhaps there was a large "I love Rufus" banner involved?

i was staying in the same hotel (by coincidence! honest!) - it was the premiere of his new opera in manchester and me and my friends had gone up to see it. the following morning we were totally oblivious to the fact that rufus had stayed in our hotel, but at breakfast we had seen various people associated with the opera - the lead singer for example and we were mega excited. we still didn't think rufus would have been staying there. and then i was down in the lobby of the hotel waiting for tracy and sheridan so that we could check out, and who came waltzing in? rufus of the wainwright! he was talking with some friends and i was shaking with excitement. i was SO hoping sheridan would arrive (she's much more confident at going up to famous people than i am) but she didn't arrive immediately so i thought 'you'll regret this forever if you don't say something' and i say hello and could i have a photo! he was with friends, so we didn't chat, we just had the photo and i said congratulations (on the opera) and that was it.

great story suzyb. and very gutsy of you too! it's very hard to find the nerve to approach a major celeb. especially one that you love so dearly. but you're right, you would have regretted it if you let such an oportunistic meeting pass you by. i bet your friends were SPEWING when they finally got down to the lobby. but as they say, the early bird (you) catches the worm (Roofy)! and it really is a very nice photo of you both.

oh, i should have scrolled down as i see that your other friends got a photo with Rufus too. although i would have to say quite honestly that he looks much more handsome in the photo with you. are you going to get it blown up to life size to hang on your wall at home?
oh no, i've got an even better idea. you should get Paul Lemon to paint it for you!
