rufus 'judy' wainwright
so you will all be relieved to hear that i have managed to get tickets for rufus' london gig in february.
i am over the moon.
couple of gripes, however. the first is that the ticket website collapsed as soon as the clock struck 9am. very annoying seeing as i had begged a colleague to cover my class just so that i could get tickets.
secondly the tickets were astronomically expensive - daylight robbery i tell you! eighty pounds. each. and i don't think any of it is going to charity or anything. i am philosophical about it - i am not going to miss the opportunity to see rw (with a full orchestra! singing judy garland songs!), at almost any price! which brings me on to ...
third gripe - of course they've added a second date. so much for 'one night only'. and now i want tickets for that too. but even i cannot possibly bring myself to part with more money.
ticket prices for big gigs are getting so expensive - mainly because they know someone will pay. u2 cost something like £75 for a ticket last year. paul simon (next friday) - £50.
and for some reason i am going to the r.a.h to hear paul mccartney's latest classical composition - cheap tickets at £40.
and i have taken a pay cut this year.
still, one night with rufus or a pair of shoes? well, i've already got lots of pairs of shoes....

wow - that really is EXPENSIVE, isn't it! i hope that's because he's paying every member of the orchestra a really good wage....
I haven't been to see any live music in ages and I'm really missing it.

yes, part of me would like to think that rufus is paying everyone lavishly. but i think it is also possible he is just paying himself lavishly.
lavish is a very rufus word.
my friend sam said he would rather see 4 smaller gigs than one big gig (for the same price). but i'm not sure. for me, i'd rather see one gig i know i am going to enjoy than 4 ones i'm haven't heard of.

"i'm haven't heard of"
i must be tired.
off to bed.

wow... i don't really remember paying more than 25 or 30 the times we saw him. would he have to pay royalties or anything since he is singing Judy's songs?... or is that a ridiculous question...
all that aside, i am so very jealous that you will get to see him in all his gloriousness, with full orchestra and all. he never comes close to me, which is really disappointing.
hope you are well.

"he never comes close to me" could have many, many connotations. not least that you reckon that you are a much better performer than rw.
you've got a pretty good singing voice josh, but i still think rufus beats you hands down.
